Very inspiring casting (again) from VPRO’s “Tegenlicht” about idea to switch from possesing objects to paying for the service to use these objects. As told by Thomas Rau, architect of (amongst others) the “Duurzaamheidsfabriek” (‘Factory of Sustainability’) in Dordrecht.
The thing is, not to want to own a lamp or a refrigerator to give us light of cooling, but to pay for the service of companies that give us this light or cooling. This way, the producers of these goods like lighting objetcs, or kitchen aids) are made responsible for making sure that their products are endurable and sustainable. This flips the whole chain of producing goods that are made to break down too soon, so people have to buy new gods, and a lot of materials are lost for good. Very interesting and inspiring thoughts.
